-Americans always eat hamburgers and fries. It is their typical meal.
-In big cities, Americans drive very large cars, but in towns they ride horses.
-Students always wear baseball hats… And adults always wear cowboy hats.
-When Americans speak, it's like they have a big piece of gum in their mouth. (We don't enunciate).
-The most important thing to American men is football and beer.
-Americans are obsessed with business and making money.
-They live a very fast paced life and do not have time to eat peacefully or converse with one another.
-Americans do not know how to dress elegantly and always wear really baggy clothing.
-When traveling, they always stop at McDonald's.
-Americans need distance when talking to someone. They are afraid to speak to someone up close. (We like our personal space).
Some other cultural observations I've made this week:
-They love listening to American music… Mostly music from the 1970s-90s. You hear Madonna everywhere!
-One of my professors warned us against using our iPhones in public. She told us iPhones are uncommon here because they are extremely expensive in Spain. If someone sees you have an iPhone, they will assume you are very wealthy and this could make you a target.
-It is extremely rare to attend college anywhere other than the city your parents live in. It is very common for children to live in their parents' homes until they are married.
-A college education costs much less here. One of my professors said a public university is approximately $2,000 for an entire year, and a private university (on the high end) is $5,000.
-Valencia is famous for their oranges. Their fresh orange juice is delicious!
-90 degrees is not hot to the locals… I saw people wearing pants and sweaters in this weather!
That's all for now… I am leaving for my weekend trip to Madrid very early tomorrow morning. Look for a new post on Monday! :)
